Chris and I had decided that we would go to the Tank Museum just a few miles away. He was particularly keen to go and I wanted to see what had changed since I was last there about 60 years ago!
We had an early lunch on the Man O' War Restaurant and off we went, stopping off at Woolbrige Manor on the way.
The River Frome (pronounced Froom) at East Stoke, just outside Wool.
Bridge now closed to all but pedestrians and cyclists.
This is Woolbridge Manor - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolbridge_Manor_House - a Grade II listed building. It was up for sale recently at a very competitive price considering its history and size but I believe that it needs a lot of work on it and, as a listed building, will require compliance with any conditions that English Heritage my stipulate when any work is carried out.
The place is an integral part of Hardy's Wessex and features strongly in Hardy's novel "Tess of the D'Urbervilles". For more on Thomas Hardy, see - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Hardy.
And then we were off to the Tank Museum which houses the third largest collection of armoured vehicles in the world. See - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tank_Museum
It's nice to see that people are able to park their tanks properly!
There is an almost endless array of military vehicles housed in the museum so the above can only be a selection.
